CircuLite is a cardiovascular device company that is transforming heart failure treatment with the development of minimally-invasive devices for long-term partial circulatory support (PCS). By enabling a proactive and lower-risk treatment approach by supplementing a patient's native pumping capacity, CircuLite has the potential to improve the quality of life for millions of chronic heart failure patients and their families. The company's proprietary micro-pump platform enables its PCS devices to be so small that they can be implanted superficially in a pacemaker-like pocket with endovascular or minimally-invasive surgical techniques.
CircuLite's platform of PCS devices is lead by the Synergy® Pocket Micro-Pump, the world's smallest implantable blood pump, currently in a CE Mark clinical trial and soon to be in a US IDE trial. Circulite is collaborating with the University of Maryland School of Medicine under an NIH grant for the development of a Synergy-based circulatory assist device that can be used in children and infants with life-threatening heart conditions. Additional next-generation Synergy pocket micro-pumps will include an endovascular system and a fully-implantable system with physiological feedback, a right heart support system and a pediatric system.
Synergy is designed to expand the treatment of heart failure from the acute decompensated hospitalized patient to the chronic, ambulatory patient. The CircuLite technology is designed to provide a new treatment option for over two million chronic heart failure patients worldwide who are not responding to conventional, optimal medical therapy, (including medications and, when appropriate, device-based treatments) but are not yet candidates for a surgically implanted ventricular assist device (VAD) or heart transplantation.
The key component of the Synergy device is the proprietary and patented micro-pump technology acquired after eight years of development at the Helmholtz Institute in Aachen, Germany, one of the world’s leading centers for blood pump technology development.
CircuLite, a private, venture backed international company, was founded in November 2004 and is incorporated in Delaware. CircuLite is headquartered in Saddle Brook, New Jersey and CircuLite GmbH is located in Aachen, Germany.
